College Spotlight: DJ Cherk
Over the years the connotation of what an actual DJ does has twisted and turned from someone who actually spins on a turntable, to someone who owns an iPhone 4 and an a virtual mixing software.
This month’s college spotlight features a talented up-and-coming DJ, who actually deejays on the scene in Tampa Bay. With tools such as DDJ-S1 Serato Itch, Mastering and Final Touches, as well as his sharp skills in Logic Pro 9 and Ableton, DJ Cherk is already building a name for himself around the college party circuit.
From his variety mixes that include bass rattling mixtures of trap, rap, and house, the New Jersey-native, born Andrew Cherkas, is cleverly attuned to some of today’s hottest music and personalizes the music experience every time he spins.
DJ Cherk keeps in tuned with his audience by hosting his own radio show weekly on WUTT, every Wednesday night at 9pm. The live broadcast allows audiences to call in as well as get special previews of his upcoming mixes. Currently, Cherk can be found spinning weekly at local college bars and has consistently shown his musicality as he provides a wide array of crowd pleasers to Tampa partygoers.
So, what’s next for our spotlight college DJ? A guest spot for Tampa’s soon to be biggest party, Barstool Blackout U Fckin Foam. As the opening DJ, Cherk will premiere a mix of progressive house, electronic, dub-step, and trap that is sure to get the crowd ready for a wild night.
